A DMPS investigation exists.
Kathryn obtained a 2024 Level One Investigator's Report concerning Roland and a 14-year-old McCombs student.
Peaceful Public Protest · September 29
Kids should not have to wonder whether adults will listen when they say something made them uncomfortable.
Why We're Showing Up
Former students, parents, and others have come forward with allegations concerning educator and wrestling coach Dustin Roland.
Kathryn has also obtained a 2024 Des Moines Public Schools Level One Investigator's Report concerning Roland and a 14-year-old student at McCombs Middle School.
That record does not prove every allegation being made. Nobody needs to pretend that it does.
What it does establish is that a complaint existed, an investigation occurred, witnesses were interviewed, and the student was moved to another class.
There is also a recording of Roland addressing middle-school students about allegations concerning himself.
At some point the question stops being "Why are people talking about this?" and becomes "What did the adults responsible for these kids do about it?"
This is not about internet drama.
It is about whether complaints from students were heard, documented, investigated appropriately, and followed by decisions that actually protected children.
If the system worked exactly the way it was supposed to, then DMPS should have no problem showing the public how it worked.
If it didn't, then that needs to be confronted too.
Keep the Record Straight

Documented
A recording captures Roland addressing middle-school students about allegations involving himself and defending his record.
Alleged
Former students, parents, and others have provided or publicly posted accounts concerning Roland. Those claims remain attributed to the people making them.
Not Claimed
The purpose of accountability is to get answers, records, and an honest institutional response — not to erase the difference between evidence and allegation.
What We Want
This doesn't require a committee to invent seven new euphemisms for "we're looking into it." It requires answers to basic questions.
Across the schools and programs where he worked, what complaints were documented?
What process was used, what conclusions were reached, and what records were created?
What protective measures, employment decisions, supervision, or other action followed?
Students should know exactly what happens when they report conduct that makes them feel unsafe or uncomfortable.
