That language is ugly, demeaning, and unnecessary. People with intellectual disabilities are people — not a category to reduce to a label from a stage.
There are a thousand ways to welcome human beings into a room without talking about them like that. This was one of the easiest linguistic hurdles imaginable, and somehow here we are.
